A tutor practises spoken English conversation with a young professional.

Language learners are some of the most varied students a tutor can have: a child in Class 3 learning to read English aloud, a college student preparing for an interview, a professional heading abroad, or a family abroad wanting their children to speak Hindi. TutorPapa connects experienced language specialists with all of them.

Who wants a language tutor

  • School students who need help with English grammar, reading, writing and literature, or with Hindi, Sanskrit and regional languages.

  • Spoken English learners building fluency and confidence for college, interviews or work.

  • Test takers preparing for IELTS, TOEFL, PTE or the Duolingo English Test.

  • Foreign language learners studying French, German, Spanish, Japanese or other languages for school, study abroad or careers.

  • Families abroad who want their children to learn Hindi or a regional Indian language online.

What makes a good language tutor

Learners want plenty of speaking time, gentle correction and practical vocabulary. Structured lessons with clear goals, such as a job interview, a presentation or a test band, help adults stay motivated. With children, short activities, stories and reading aloud work well. Our Spoken English in 30 Days course and the online English tutors page show how TutorPapa presents language learning to families.

Qualifications that help

Language degrees, teaching certifications such as CELTA or TESOL, and recognised foreign language levels (for example DELF for French or Goethe certificates for German) all strengthen your profile. List what you hold; it will be verified.

Who can register as a TutorPapa tutor

We keep the bar clear and the same for everyone, because parents trust the tutors they find through us. For languages, specialism means you teach the language, not only speak it well.

  • Subject specialist: you must be a genuine specialist in the subject or domain you want to teach, not someone willing to cover anything.

  • At least 2 years of teaching experience: a minimum of two years teaching students, whether in a school, a coaching institute, a college or as a private tutor.

  • Verification: ID verification, qualification verification and a background verification are completed before your profile goes live, along with agreement to our safeguarding policy.

  • Demo lesson: a short demo lesson so our team can see how you explain a topic and handle a student's questions.

Online, home or both

Spoken English and foreign languages adapt very well to online lessons, and many adult learners prefer evening or weekend slots. Younger children learning to read often benefit from a tutor at home. You can offer either mode.

Your demo lesson as a language tutor

For a spoken English demo, show how you get a learner talking within the first few minutes, correct gently without breaking their flow, and leave them with a few useful phrases. For a test-preparation tutor, you might explain one IELTS speaking or writing task and the criteria examiners use. For a foreign language, teach a short beginner lesson, for example greetings and introductions in French or German. For school English, you might work through a comprehension passage or a grammar point. We look for clear pronunciation, accuracy, encouragement and a well-paced lesson.

How registration works

  1. Register on the Become a Tutor page with your name, mobile number and email.

  2. Complete your portfolio: photo, a short note about you, subjects, classes, boards and exams, city or online preference, experience, qualifications, a demo video link and your availability.

  3. Pass the safety checks: ID, qualification and background verification, the safeguarding policy and a short demo lesson.

  4. Go live: once verified, your profile appears in the tutor finder, and you start receiving student requests that match your subjects, classes and location.

After your profile goes live

Keep your availability, subjects and areas up to date from your tutor dashboard, so the requests you receive stay relevant. Respond to new requests promptly, and agree the schedule and goals with the student or parent at the start. Good communication and steady progress are what lead families to recommend a tutor to others.
