A tutor helps a girl build a simple game in Scratch on a laptop at home.

Coding has moved from an extra-curricular to a core skill. Parents want their children to learn to think logically and build things, school students need help with Computer Science syllabi, and college students and professionals want practical skills. TutorPapa connects experienced coding and computer science tutors with these learners.

Who wants a coding tutor

Children aged about 7 to 14

Block-based coding with Scratch, then Python, simple games and app projects. Patience and project-based teaching matter more than advanced theory. Our article on online coding classes for kids explains what parents look for.

School students

CBSE Computer Science and Informatics Practices (Python, SQL), ICSE Computer Applications and ISC Computer Science (Java), state board computer subjects, and IGCSE and A Level Computer Science.

College students and professionals

Programming fundamentals, data structures and algorithms, web development, Python for data analysis, and data science and machine learning basics.

Teaching coding well

  • Have students write code in every session rather than watching you type.

  • Use small projects to tie concepts together, such as a quiz game, a calculator or a personal website.

  • Teach debugging as a skill, not just a fix.

  • For school syllabi, practise output-prediction and theory questions as well as programs.

TutorPapa also offers Python for beginners, data science with Python and other coding courses, so experienced tutors can explore group and recorded teaching too.

Who can register as a TutorPapa tutor

We keep the bar clear and the same for everyone, because parents trust the tutors they find through us. Coding tutors need teaching experience, not only industry experience.

  • Subject specialist: you must be a genuine specialist in the subject or domain you want to teach, not someone willing to cover anything.

  • At least 2 years of teaching experience: a minimum of two years teaching students, whether in a school, a coaching institute, a college or as a private tutor.

  • Verification: ID verification, qualification verification and a background verification are completed before your profile goes live, along with agreement to our safeguarding policy.

  • Demo lesson: a short demo lesson so our team can see how you explain a topic and handle a student's questions.

Working developers are welcome if they have also taught students for at least 2 years, for example in a school, an institute, a bootcamp or as a private tutor.

Online first, home where needed

Coding is very well suited to online lessons with screen sharing, and most coding students learn this way. Some parents of younger children prefer a tutor at home for the first few months. You can choose either or both.

Your demo lesson as a coding tutor

For the demo, choose a level you teach and build something small with the student. With a child, that might be a Scratch animation or a simple Python number-guessing game. With a school student, it might be a CBSE Python program on lists or an ISC Java question on classes and objects. With an older learner, it could be a short web page or a data-analysis notebook. We look at how clearly you explain, whether the student does the typing and thinking, and how you handle errors. Have your development environment and screen sharing ready before you start.

How registration works

  1. Register on the Become a Tutor page with your name, mobile number and email.

  2. Complete your portfolio: photo, a short note about you, subjects, classes, boards and exams, city or online preference, experience, qualifications, a demo video link and your availability.

  3. Pass the safety checks: ID, qualification and background verification, the safeguarding policy and a short demo lesson.

  4. Go live: once verified, your profile appears in the tutor finder, and you start receiving student requests that match your subjects, classes and location.

After your profile goes live

Keep your availability, subjects and areas up to date from your tutor dashboard, so the requests you receive stay relevant. Respond to new requests promptly, and agree the schedule and goals with the student or parent at the start. Good communication and steady progress are what lead families to recommend a tutor to others.
